Species Globigerinita uvula Ehrenberg 1861

Diagnosis / Definition:
Kennett & Srinivasan (1983):
Test small, very high trochospiral;chambers spherical, increasing slowly in size as added, much embracing, three to four globular chambers in the final whorl; surface smooth, largely covered with small, subconical tubercles or crystallites; aperture interiomarginal, umbilical, rather low arch, bordered by a thin lip.
Discussion / Comments:
Kennett & Srinivasan (1983):
Ga. uvula is distinguished by its small, smooth, high trochospiral test with characteristic microperforate surface ultrastructure.
Van Eijden & Smit (1991):
Remarks. G. uvula is very rare. It was found in some late Oligocene age samples.
Rögl (1985):
This minute species is readily recognizable by its closely coiled, very high troehospire, which usually has 3 to 31 chambers per whorl. In low latitudes it ranges from Early Miocene to Holocene, but immigrated into the Central Paratethys only in the Middle Miocene.
Chaisson & Leckie (1993):
Remarks: This species is quite rare, except in the lower Miocene where numerous and very large specimens are found. Similar species: The trochospire of this species is distinctly higher than that of Globigerinita glutinata and no morphological cline between the two morphotypes is observed.
