Species Cassigerinella boudecensis Pokorny 1955

Discussion / Comments:
Rögl (1985):
The wall surface of this species is covered with coarse pustules, which are more prominent in the earlier part of the test. The opinion of Blow & Banner (1962) that these pustules arc an artifact of preservation is contradicted by their ubiquitous presence, even in well preserved material. For this reason, we separate C. boudecensis from C. chipolensis (Cushman). In the latter species the chambers are also more globular and increase more rapidly in size. There is a tendency in the Early Miocene Ottnangian of the Paratethys for the pustules on C. boudecensis to become spine like in the distal part of the test. This perhaps warrants the erection of a new subspecies. In low latitudes the genus Cassigerinella first appeared in the Late Eocene but is not found in the Mediterranean and the Paratethys until the Late Oligocene.
