Rögl (1985):
The 4-chambered G. diplostoma differs from the similar G. bulloides in a slower increase of chamber size; the last chamber is often of the same size or even smaller compared with the penultimate. The ranges of the two apparently closely related species are virtually the same. Some authors therefore regard them as synonymous.
However, the populations of this species in the Middle Miocene of the Vienna Basin give the impression that it is a distinct valid species, distinguishable from G. bulloides cooccurring in the same samples, and not synonymous as maintained by Blow (1959).
