Species Globigerina subcretacea Lomnicki 1900

Discussion / Comments:
Rögl (1985):
This small, very low trochospiral species has 5 chambers moderately increasing in size, which form the last whorl. The aperture is umbilical-extraumbilical in position. G.subcretacea of Lomnicki is not to be mistaken for G. subcretacea Chapman 1902, which is a much larger Recent form. The lectotype of G. subcretacea erected by Blow is invalid because of his erroneous assumption that Lomnicki placed his species in direct synonymy with G. cretacea d'Orbigny? of Brady (1884, p. 596, pl. 82, fig. 10). Both forms are distinctly different and do not even belong to the same genus. Rögl & Bolli (1973) therefore introduced the new name Neogloboquadrina dutertrei blowi for Chapman's species.
