Iaccarino (1985):
Globigerina regina is not well known in the literature but is a taxon commonly recorded in the Mediterranean area. The major morphologic features are a very low troehospire, a finely perforate wall surface, rounded axial periphery and flat or slightly convex spiral side. The chambers have a subspherical shape: the three chambers forming the last whorl have approximately the same size. The most peculiar feature is the aperture, which is a very elongated slit with a thin lip at the base of the last chamber. The aperture of G. regina is very similar to that of Globigerina juvenilis which, however, shows a distinctly lobate periphery. |
