Species Guembelitria cenomana Keller 1935

Discussion / Comments:
Caron (1985):
The species differs from G. cretacea only in its low apertural arch.
Kroon & Nederbragt (1990):
The test is covered by pore mounds, that are concentrated on the chambers of the last whorls. The aperture is a broad, low arc with lip and toothplate. The type descriptions of G. cenomana, G. harrisi and G. kegeli are nearly identical as far as the shape of the test is concerned and we consider G. cenomana the senior synonym. G. graysonensis is a form with terminal multiserial growth. Guembelitria cenomana has been described from Upper Albian to Lower Turonian sediments, in North and South America and Russia. We found it in sample 1K291 from Cenomanian sediments in West Tunisia (see also Postuma, 1971) and in Eocene (?) samples T25 and T90 from Tanimbar, Indonesia, which contain reworked, small-sized Cretaceous foraminifera only [for details, see De Smet et al., submitted (a) ].
