Discussion / Comments: |
Griffin & Nielsen (2008):
TYPE MATERIAL. Two syntypes housed in the Typothèque of the Laboratoire de Géologie under number MNHN-Gg2002/101 (Coquimbo), both were not figured by Hupé (1854).
REMARKS. There are two specimens labeled as Trochus rouaultii, but one is listed in the catalogue as “Trochus luctuosus d’Orb”. Specimen MNHN-Gg2002/101-2 most probably belongs in the Recent Tegula atra (Lesson, 1830), while MNHN-Gg2002/101-1 belongs in the Recent Prisogaster niger (Wood, 1828). To our knowledge Hupé’s name has never been used in the literature so it should not cause confusion. |
