Species Neogloboquadrina dutertrei d'Orbigny 1839

Diagnosis / Definition:
Kennett & Srinivasan (1983):
Test globose, trochospiral, spire flat to slightly convex, five to six inflated chambers in the final whorl; sutures on spiral side almost radial to slightly curved, depressed; on umbilical side almost radial, depressed; surface uniformly moderately perforate, with distinct pore pits in tropical forms, pore pits partly or fully constricted by growth of euhedral calcite crystals in subtropical forms; umbilicus open, moderately broad and deep; aperture umbilical, umbilical-extraumbilical in young specimens; tooth-like umbilical plates often present.
Discussion / Comments:
Chaisson & Pearson (1997):
In Sample 154-925B-20H-5, 65-67cm, “humerosa,” “dutertrei,” and “pseudopima” (cf. Bolli and Saunders, 1985) morphotypes can all be distinguished. In Sample 154-925B-18H-5, 65-67 cm, neogloboquadrinids are rare, and the “humerosa” vs. the “dutertrei” morphotypes are distinguished by the greater angle of the trochospire in the latter. In Samples 154-925B-13H-3, 65-67cm, and 11H-5, 65-67 cm, “dutertrei” with apertural plates are observed. Specimens of “dutertrei” lacking apertural plates are observed in Sample 154-925B-10H-5, 65-67 cm. In Sample 154-925B-5H-6, 65-67 cm, six-chambered neogloboquadrinids have umbilical apertures and no apertural plates, thus combining the characteristics of “dutertrei” and “humerosa.”
Chaisson & Leckie (1993):
Similar species: In Hole 806B, the ranges of N. dutertrei andN. acostaensis overlap from the top of Subzone N 17a to the middle of Zone N18/N19. N. dutertrei has more inflated chambers, a coarser cancellate texture, and a more open aperture. Its apertural flap, when present, rarely covers the aperture completely (e.g., see Plate 8, Fig. 9). See N. humerosa.
