Subspecies Turborotalia pseudoampliapertura sinaiensis |
|
|
Diagnosis / Definition: |
Haggag & Luterbacher (1995):
Description : Test generally small, nonumbilicate,
biconvex; umbihcal side more strongly convex than
spiral one ; equatorial periphery lobate, in axial view
periphery rounded with distinct dorso-peripheral
shoulder. Three tightly coiled whorls with approximately
13 chambers; 3 1/2 to 4 chambers of the
last whorl increasing rapidly in size as added.
Sutures deeply incised, radial on umbilical side,
slightly curved on spiral side. Aperture a high arch
with distinct lip. Surface coarsely perforate.
Diameter : 125-235 µm. |
Discussion / Comments: |
Haggag & Luterbacher (1995):
Remarks : The specimens illustrated by Haggag
(1990, pl. 1, fig. 25, 27) as Globigerina cf. ampliapertura
belong to T. pseudoampliapertura sinaiensis.
Slightly variable characters in this subspecies
are the height of the spiral side, the width of the
last chamber, the shape of the dorso-peripheral
shoulder, and the shape of the apertural arch which
varies from symmetrical to slightly asymmetrical.
The new subspecies differs from T. pseudoampliapertura
pseudoampliapertura in having a smaller,
more delicate nonumbilicate test, more strongly
depressed sutures and a more coarsely perforate
surface.
T. pseudoampliapertura sinaiensis n. subsp, has
been compared with topotypes of Globigerina ampliapertura
BOLLI, 1957 kindly provided by its
author. It differs from this species in having a more distinct dorso-peripheral shoulder, more laterally
compressed chambers in the last whorl and a more
finely perforated surface. The early ontogenetic portion
of the tests indicates different ancestors (see
also Blow and Banner, 1962 ; Blow, 1979). |
