Species Rotalipora ticinensis Gandolfi 1942

Diagnosis / Definition:
Gasinski (1988):
Dimensions: D=0.35-0.65mm, t=0.18-0.32mm
Discussion / Comments:
Caron (1985):
R. ticinensis is considered to be the link in the lineage Ticinella praeticinensis - Rotalipiora subticinensis - R.ticinensis - R. appeninica. The morphological changes taking place during evolution are a gradual reduction in the number of chambers and a progressicve aquisition of a peripheral keel on all chambers of the last whorl.
Gasinski (1988):
Remarks: The investigated specimens are similar to those from the type locality at Breggia. The palaeobiological significance of this species is also supported by suggestions of Caron (1985) that it should be included in the lineage T. praeticinensis-R. subticinensis--R. ticinensis. Specimens from the so-called Trawne Beds (Gasinski, 1983) and Kapusnica Formation are somewhat smaller (D=0.35-0.55 mm) than those from the Czorsztyn succession (D = 0.42-0.65 mm). Local stratigraphic range: Hedbergella assemblage Zone (FAD, unknown here) to the top of R. ticinensis-P. buxtorfi Zone.
Pflaumann & Krasheninnikov (1977):
Small specimens attributed to this species are rare to few in Sections 369A-43-1 to 41-3 (Rotalipora ticinensis Zone).
