Discussion / Comments: |
Kennett & Srinivasan (1983):
This species has been widely recorded as Globigerinoides bisphericusTodd, overlooking the priority of De Stefani's name. Bronnimann and Resig (1971) proposed several new taxa (Globigerinoides pseudoselli, Globigerinoides sicanus praesicanus) for this group of subspherical forms, which are here regarded as variants within Gs. triloba—Gs. sicanus populations. Gs. sicanus developed from Gs. triloba (Reuss) and is the direct ancestor of Praeorbulina and, in turn, Orbulina .
Quilty (1976):
Remarks: The specimens reworked into the late Miocene of Hole 319 include those forms described by Brönnimann and Resig (1969) as G. sicanus praesicanus, and also possibly G. pseudosellii.. |
