Diagnosis / Definition: |
Kennett & Srinivasan (1983):
Test minute, very low trochospiral, loosely coiled, equatorial periphery distinctly lobulate; axial periphery rounded; chambers oval, radially elongate, seven in the final whorl; sutures on both spiral and umbilical side radial depressed; surface smooth, translucent, almost imperf orate to very finely perforate with short, conical spines concentrated along the periphery; aperture a low arch bordered by a thin lip, interiomarginal, umbilical-extraumbilical. |
Discussion / Comments: |
Kennett & Srinivasan (1983):
Ta. cristata can be distinguished from Ta. humilis by its radially elongate later chambers in the final whorl, short
conical spines concentrated along the periphery, lack of large pores, and an absence of a tongue-like extension of the final chamber.
Ta. cristata appears to have developed from Ta. humilis during the early Pleistocene. |
