Type species.- Ammonites (Scaphites?) ramosus Meek, 1857, p. 45, by original designation. Discussion.- Having no well-preserved material in hand, we follow Henderson and McNamara (1985, p. 38) in regarding Neophylloceras as a separate subgenus rather than as a synonym of Hypophylloceras Salfeld, 1924 (p. 6) (e.g., Wiedmann, 1962a, 1962b; Kennedy and Klinger, 1977a, p. 354).
