Species Blowiella blowi Bolli 1959


Discussion / Comments:
Banner & Desai (1988):
B. blowi is distinguished by its subspherical chambers from the other species of Blowiella described here; this follows the original diagnosis given by Bolli (1959).
Boudagher-Fadel et al. (1997):
Remarks: Of the primary type series (Bolli, 1959), only the holotype is characterized by having five (and a fraction) spherical chambers in the last whorl, increasing gradually in size. It is biumbilicate, with a symmetrical aperture, extending laterally into each umbilicus, furnished with portici. The four-chambered paratype of B. blowi, with asymmetric final chambers is now referred to B. moulladei (q.v.). Longoria (1974, plate 4) has illustrated the increase in the chamber number in the descendants of the typical form of B. blowi ss. to six to seven chambers in the final whorl. With an increase in umbilical diameter, this can lead to the great increase in chamber number which characterized Globigerinelloides at the beginning of the Globigerinelloides ferreolensis Zone of Late Aptian time. Globigerinelloides has a much greater number of chambers than Blowiella, much broader umbilici and longer portici.
