Diagnosis / Definition:
Kennett & Srinivasan (1983):
Test minute, low trochospiral, equatorial periphery almost circular, lobulate; axial periphery rounded; six subspherical chambers in the final whorl, increasing uniformly in size as added; tongue-like extension of the final chamber over the umbilicus having several infralaminal apertures; sutures radial and depressed; surface smooth, very finely perforate, larger pores concentrated along the periphery; aperture (except when covered by bulla) interiomarginal, umbilical-extraumbilical.
Discussion / Comments:
Kennett & Srinivasan (1983):
Ta. humilis is distinguished from Globigerina (Globigerina) quinqueloba by its smaller size, more numerous chambers in the final whorl, and microperforate wall and larger pores concentrated along the periphery.
Bolli & Saunders (1985):
The original illustration by Brady is not repeated here as the nature of the umbilical side was completely missed in this very small species. Many conspecific, specimens were available in Brady's slides and Banner & Blow (1960a) chose a lectotype which they later (Blow & Banner, 1962, p. 122) placed in a new genus, Turborotalita. As in Globigerinita naparimaensis, the last chamber in this species is modified to form an extensive bulla that wraps over the umbilicus and ends in a series of finger like extensions over the sutures. Apertures are usually separate at the end of each extension though they might combine in some instances. Earlier apertures are thought to be umbilical extraumbilical. Globigerinita parkerae Loeblich & Tappan may he a junior synonym of T. humilis.
Chaisson & Leckie (1993):
Similar species: T. humilis differs from Globigerina quinqueloba in its more oblate shape and more numerous chambers in the final whorl (typically six to seven).
