Discussion / Comments:
Bolli & Saunders (1985):
The distinctive quadrate, compressed test with its rather angular chambers and flat spiral side distinguishes this species group from G. altispira s.l. Some less typical forms approach species of Globigerina found in the Oligocene but the latter are not so characteristically 4 chambered in the last whorl.
Bolli (1957):
Globoquadrina quadraria (Cushman and Applin) and G. quadraria var. advena Bermudez are apparently closely related to G. dehiscens. Although some variation can be observed in the Cipero and Lengua specimens, they are here all placed in G. dehiscens.
Van Eijden & Smit (1991):
Remarks. G. dehiscens is common to abundant in the Oligocene-Miocene at Sites 752, 754, and 756. Aberrant final chambers are very common.
Chaisson & Leckie (1993):
Remarks: The LO of this species is above the FO of Globorotalia tumida in Hole 806B. The same stratigraphic relationship is noted by Srinivasan and Kennett (1981a, 1981b) in DSDP Hole 289B. The FO of Globoquadrina dehiscens marks the top of Subzone N4a/base of Subzone N4b (Kennett and Srinivasan, 1983). G. dehiscens is a fairly persistent taxon throughout the Miocene of Hole 806B, but it disappears in Zone N16 and part of Subzone N17b (upper Miocene) and has sporadic bursts of high abundance in the middle Miocene. Similar species: The final chamber of G. dehiscens is distinctly flattened and mostly imperforate, and its chambers are more angular and embracing than G. baroemoenensis.
