Species Globorotalia praemenardii Cushman & Stainforth 1945

Discussion / Comments:
Bolli & Saunders (1985):
Representative specimens of this species measuring about 0.5 mm are distinctly larger than G. archeomenardii and have a more lobate equatorial periphery. In Trinidad, from where G. praemenardii was described, the taxon is usually rare, and in the Globorotalia fohsi zones immediately following the presence of its assumed ancestor, G. praemenardii, is often absent. A relationship based on transitional forms between the two taxa is there fore difficult to prove
Chaisson & Leckie (1993):
Remarks: This species is never as common at this site as its descendent Globorotalia menardii. Similar species: In a given sample, the average size of this species is smaller than that of co-occurring specimens of G. menardii. The keel of G. praemenardii is also thinner and less distinct than G. menardii. See G. archeomenardii.
