Species Globigerina linaperta Finlay 1939

Alternative name:
Diagnosis / Definition:
Bolli (1957):
Coiling random from the Globorotalia pseudomenardii zone to Globorotalia formosa formosa zone; a slight preference for dextral coiling was noted in the Globorotalia aragonensis zone. Largest diameter of figured hypotype 0.42 mm.
Discussion / Comments:
Bolli (1957):
Globigerina linaperta Finlay is probably a descendant of G. triloculinoides Plummer from which it is distinguished by its larger size and less distinct flaring lip protecting the aperture.
Jenkins (1985):
G. linaperta has distictive compressed chambers and a lipped aperture which distinguishes it from other species in the Middle and Late Eocene. In New Zealand G. linaperta ranges from the Middle Eocene Globigerinatheka index Zone to Globigerina linaperta Zone. It has a similar range at DSDP Leg 29 Sites 277 and 282 (Jenkins, 1971, 1975), and in South Australia (Lindsay, 1969)
Van Eijden & Smit (1991):
Remarks. Intermediate forms with G. eocaena Guembel, 1868 occur in the lower Eocene, and intermediate forms with G. angiporoides Hornibrook, 1965 occur in the upper Eocene/lower Oligocene.
Quilty (1976):
Only two fragmentary specimens were recovered. Neither is figured.
