Species Truncorotaloides topilensis Cushman 1925

Discussion / Comments:
Toumarkine & Luterbacher (1985):
This is one of the most distinctive species of the Middle Eocene. T. topilensis differs from T. rohri by its angular profile accentuated by spines, and in having only 4 chambers in the last whorl. These 4 chambers are at right angles to each other and increase rapidly in size. The younger chambers, at least the last two, have a very characteristic shape with flattened peripheral margins emphasized by a rim of spines and pustules. The shape of the chambers of T. haynesi and T. libyaensis is close to that of T. topilensis but they have 6 and 5 instead of 4 chambers in the last whorl.
Bolli (1957):
The Trinidad specimens of Truncorotaloides topilensis (Cushman) compare closely with the holotype of Globigerina topilensis Cushman, except that many specimens possess sutural, supplementary apertures on the spiral side, such as characterize the genus Truncorotaloides
Van Eijden & Smit (1991):
Remarks. T. topilensis is rare and not quite typically developed in Sample 121-757B-17H-CC.
