Jenkins (1985):
G. conica is distinguished from G. mayeri in possessing only 4-5 chambers in the final whorl, a distinctly higher umbilical side, strongly curved spiral sutures and a low arched aperture. It is distinguished from its Early Miocene homeomorph G. zealandica in having a smoother wall, more strongly recurved sutures and a less rounded periphery (Jenkins, 1971). Records of G. conica are confined to New Zealand, Australia and DSDP Leg 29 Sites 278, 279 and 281 in the South Tasman Sea (Jenkins, 1971, 1975). In the Leg 29 area it is much more common than elsewhere and could be a colder water species, with an extended stratigraphic range at Site 281, where it first occurs at the top of the Globigerinoides trilobus Zone. |
