Species Catapsydrax stainforthi Bolli et al. 1957

Diagnosis / Definition:
Kennett & Srinivasan (1983):
Test small, low trochospiral, subquadrate; chambers spherical to subglobular, usually four in the final whorl; sutures depressed, radial to slightly curved; surface distinctly cancellate; aperture interiomarginal, umbilical, and covered by a single umbilical bulla with a small infralaminal accessory apertures opening over each suture of the final whorl.
Discussion / Comments:
Kennett & Srinivasan (1983):
Distinguished from Cs. dissimilis in being smaller in size and in possessing a more closely oppressed bulla, which gener- ally extends a short distance along the sutures, and with accessory apertures restricted to the area over the sutures.
Bolli & Saunders (1985):
A short ranged species smaller than C. dissimilis and having 4 to 5 less inflated chambers in the last whorl giving a flatter appearance to the test. The bulla is flat and inclined to extend along the sutures. Up to 5 small apertures are confined to positions above the sutures, the maximum number being controlled by the number of chambers in the last whorl. The test does not have the coarse pores seen in C. dissimilis C. stainforthi praestainforthi (Blow) has a stated range beginning in the Globigerinoides primordius Zone which, if proved, would extend the range of the species downwards. The relationship of C. incrusta (Akers) is not certain; both Blow (1969) and Stainforth et al. (1975) consider it as distinct from C. stainforthi.
