Species Globorotalia anfracta Parker 1967

Alternative name: | ||||||
Discussion / Comments:
Tjalsma (1977): This species occurs in abundance in the core catcher of Core 20 only. Globorotalia anfracta has been described up till now exclusively from low latitude regions, including the Central Pacific (Parker), the Red Sea (Berggren and Boersma), and the Arabian Sea (Fleisher). The oldest recorded occurrence has been early Pliocene from the lastmentioned location (Site 219). Chaisson & Leckie (1993): Remarks: The glassy, microperforate test of specimens found in Hole 806B suggest a closer relationship to Tenuitellinata angustiumbilicata and Tenuitella clemenciae than to other globorotaliids. Because the species is rare and few specimens are available for comparison, we have left the species within Globorotalia. For a detailed discussion of the tenuitellid plexus, see Qianyu (1987). |
