Subspecies Turborotalia cerroazulensis frontosa Subbotina 1953

Discussion / Comments:
Toumarkine & Luterbacher (1985):
The rather high arch-like aperture with a faint lip separates this form from species of Eocene Globigerina with which it may share the general morphology of the test. The aperture has an umbilical-extraumbilical position but does not reach the periphery of the test. Within the Turborotalia cerroazulensis lineage, the aperture extends to the periphery in the subspecies possagnoensis and pomeroli, it then migrates back towards the umbilicus in the subspecies cerroazulensis and finally reoccupies the same position as in the subspecies frontosa in the Late Eocene subspecies cocoaensis and cunialensis. Another important characteristic of the subspecies frontosa is the size and shape of the last chamber which is globular and occupies about one half of the entire test.
