Toumarkine & Luterbacher (1985): G. eocaena is the most primitive species of an evolutionary lineage which leads to G. gortanii gortanii (with G. corpulenta and G. gortanii praeturritilina as intermediate forms). G. eocaena differs from G. corpulenta and the following species of this lineage by a flat spiral side. G. corpulenta has a raised spire and the gortanii subspecies has a still higher one. Van Eijden & Smit (1991): Remarks. Intermediate forms with other Globigerina species are common. Aberrant final chambers occur commonly. |
