Species Polyperibola christiani Liska 1980

Discussion / Comments:
Bolli & Saunders (1985): Affinities in test morphology, chamber arrangement and presence of bullae exist between this species and the Early Miocene Globigerinatella insueta, which however differs in its larger size, coarser, more distinctly perforated walls and in having bullae that are either small and circular or narrow tube like extensions along sutures, in contrast to the often broader and more inflated but very delicate bullae in P. christiani. Because of a similar general chamber arrangement, closed umbilical area, similarly delicate type of wall structure and presence of tiny sutural apertures, P. christiani might be related to Candeina nitida and possibly he regarded as its ancestor. However, P. christiani differs from C. nitida in the presence of bullae and also in the generally smaller test size. |
