Subspecies Globorotalia crassaformis ronda Blow 1969

Alternative name:
Globorotalia (Turborotalia) crassaformis ronda Blow 1969
Discussion / Comments:
Bolli & Saunders (1985):
Both subspecies have a virtually identical test morphology with rounded peripheral margin and high, inflated umbilical side. According to Blow the most distinct character by which rondo differs from oceanica is the thickened test wall formed by densely packed sclerites. Both subspecies differ from the crassaformis subspecies in the distinctly rounded peripheral margin and the more inflated umbilical portion of the test and also by more closely appressed chambers as a result of tighter coiling. Because of its consistently smaller size, Lidz (1972) regarded ronda as an early ontogenetic stage found throughout the crassaformis lineage but maintained it as an ecological morphotype predominant at lower temperatures.
