Griffin & Nielsen (2008): TYPE MATERIAL. The holotype is housed in the Typothèque of the Laboratoire de Géologie under number MNHN-Gg2002/82 REMARKS. The holotype is a closed shell in which the hinge is not visible. Topotypical material in our collections suggests it may be more appropriately placed in Pitar Römer, 1857 [type species Venus tumens Gmelin, 1791], with which it shares the same hinge pattern. However, a definite generic position must wait until more material is collected |
