Discussion / Comments: | ||||||
Griffin & Nielsen (2008): TYPE MATERIAL. The type material is presumably lost as it could not be located in collections at the MNHN in Paris. A neotype was designated and figured by Parodiz (1969), which is housed in the Carnegie Museum of Natural History, Section of Molluscs, under number CM 72654. It comes from the lower Pliocene of the Colorado River, Río Negro Province. REMARKS. The type material apparently consisted of an internal mould. According to d’Orbigny (1842, p. 127), he found this species below all the Tertiary oyster-bearing sands of Patagonia, a fact that seems at least highly unlikely. Parodiz (1969) found it in the lower Pliocene of the Colorado River, north of the Río Negro. |
