Discussion / Comments: | ||||||
Griffin & Nielsen (2008): TYPE MATERIAL. Three syntypes were located in the Collection of the Laboratoire de Géologie, MNHN in Paris. They are now housed in the Typothéque of the Laboratoire under number MNHN-Gg2002/64. REMARKS. This specific name has been used for material from Quiriquina as well as for other coming from further south in Patagonia (Wilckens 1905, Wetzel 1960, Stinnesbeck 1986). In all cases the material comes from sediments that are either late Cretaceous or Paleocene in age. The thin shell and the narrow slit-like posterior gape seem to relate this species better to Mya than to Panopea, but a definite generic position can only be achieved with careful study of shell interiors. |
