Subspecies Turborotalia pseudoampliapertura nukhulensis



Diagnosis / Definition:
Haggag & Luterbacher (1995):
Description: Test generally moderately large, biconvex, low trochospiral, with umbilical side more convex than spiral side. Periphery fairly lobate in equatorial view ; rounded with a distinct dorso-peripheral shoulder in lateral view. The rather tightly coiled three whorls consist of approximately 14 chambers. The four chambers of the last whorl increase rapidly in size as added. Sutures depressed, radial on umbilical side, slighly curved on spiral side. Umbilicus small. Aperture a fairly wide low arch, umbihcal to slightly extraumbilical, bordered by a narrow lip. Surface finely perforate. Diameter: 130-250 µm.

Haggag & Luterbacher (1995):
Remarks : Turborotalia pseudoampliapertura nukhulensis differs from its ancestor T. cerroazulensis pomeroli in having a smaller and more tightly coiled test and an umbilical to slightly extraumbilical aperture in the form of a low arch which does not extend to the periphery. The specimen selected as holotype (P1. 2, fig. 7) is very similar to one of the specimens from the Upper Eocene of Tanzania figured by Blow and Banner (1962, p. 134, fig..12c IV). In the Wadi Nukhul section, transitional forms between T. cerroazulensis pomeroli and T. pseudoampliapertura nukhulensis (see PI. 1, fig. 1-4) are observed in two closely spaced samples from the uppermost part of the Morozovella lehneri Zone s.1. (probably equivalent to the Orbulinoides beckmanni Zone, see Haggag and Luterbacher, 1991).
