Chaisson & Leckie (1993): Remarks: Hemleben et al. (1989) refer to the modern species as Streptochilus globigerus, whereas Kennett and Srinivasan (1983) call it S. tokelauae, after Brönniman and Resig (1971). S. globigerum is a middle Miocene to lower Pliocene species distinguished by its "globose chambers and distinctly rugose test surface" (Kennett and Srinivasan, 1983). At Site 806, rugose specimens disappear above Core 130-806B-13H-2 (lower Pliocene Zone N19/N18), and members of the genus are not found again until Core 130-806B-11H-5 (mid- Pliocene, Zone N20/N19), where they are the smooth, perforate S. globigerus/ tokelauae form. It is not found above Core 130-06B-2H-5. |
