Species Hedbergella simplicissima Magné & Sigal 1954

Discussion / Comments:
Pflaumann & Krasheninnikov (1977): We have encountered the same variability of the species from subelongate to clavate chambers as figured by Loeblich and Tappan (1961) sub Hedbergella amabilis. As Hedbergella simplicissima falls into the same spectrum it has priority in nomenclature (see Caron, 1966). Herb (1974) pointed to the same kind of hispid surfaces of the tests of H. simplicissima and H. delrioensis. Plate 2, Figures 7c and 10b confirm that statement. These figures demonstrate that spines are not restricted to the Neogene Globigerinacea. Additional investigations will clarify the nature of these "spines." The species had been described from Albian and Cenomanian (mostly sub H. amabilis), according to Caron (1966) and continues up to Santonian. Several very small specimens were encountered in our material, down to Aptian strata which resemble the outline of H. simplicissima. However preservation is too poor for an exact determination. |
