Species Globigerina (Globigerina) angustiumbilicata Bolli 1957

Alternative name:
Globigerina angustiumbilicata Bolli 1957
Diagnosis / Definition:
Kennett & Srinivasan (1983):
Test very low trochospiral, four to five slowly increasing, subglobular chambers in the final whorl. Sutures on both sides radial and depressed; surface smooth to very finely rugose; umbilical region small; aperture very low arch with a thin lip.
Discussion / Comments:
Kennett & Srinivasan (1983):
Gg. (Gg.) angustiumbilicata is morphologically close to Gg. (Gg.) ciperoensis and Gg. (Gg.) angulisuturalis and appears to be ancestral to these two species. It differs from Gg. (Gg.) angulisuturalis in lacking the deep-cut, U-shaped sutures and from Gg. (Gg.) ciperoensis by having a small, confined umbilicus and a distinct apertural lip. Gg. (Gg.) angustiumbilicata appears to have evolved from Gg. (Gg.) officinalis during the Late Eocene (Blow and Banner, 1962).
Synonym list:
