Discussion / Comments: | ||||||
Kennett & Srinivasan (1983): Gg. (Gg.) angustiumbilicata is morphologically close to Gg. (Gg.) ciperoensis and Gg. (Gg.) angulisuturalis and appears to be ancestral to these two species. It differs from Gg. (Gg.) angulisuturalis in lacking the deep-cut, U-shaped sutures and from Gg. (Gg.) ciperoensis by having a small, confined umbilicus and a distinct apertural lip. Gg. (Gg.) angustiumbilicata appears to have evolved from Gg. (Gg.) officinalis during the Late Eocene (Blow and Banner, 1962). |
