Species Globigerina (Globigerina) praebulloides Blow 1959

Alternative name:
Globigerina praebulloides Blow 1959
Diagnosis / Definition:
Kennett & Srinivasan (1983):
Test medium, trochospiral, equatorial periphery elongate with four rapidly enlarging chambers in the final whorl; sutures on both sides depressed, radial to slightly curved; umbilicus small; aperture umbilical low to moderate asymmetrical arch.
Discussion / Comments:
Kennett & Srinivasan (1983):
Gg. (Gg.) praebulloides is ancestral to Gg. (Gg.) bulloides, from which it differs in having an elongate equatorial pro- file and smaller, less strongly arched aperture. Early Miocene forms of Gg. (Gg.) praebulloides are more heavily thickened than later forms. Globigerina foliata Bolli and Globigerina bulbosa LeRoy are morphologically similar and are perhaps variants of Gg. (Gg.) praebulloides. Gg. (Gg.) praebulloides gave rise to the Globigerinoides primordius- altiapertura group during the Late Oligocene, by developing a small, supplementary aperture on the spiral side.
