Species Natica striolata Sowerby 1846

Discussion / Comments:
Griffin & Nielsen (2008):
TYPE MATERIAL. The two syntypes could not be located in the NHM and must be considered as lost. Since the species cannot be confused with any other occurring in Chile, designation of a neotype should await a complete revision of the species. REMARKS. “Natica” striolata is known basically from Chiloé and surrounding areas. The only record from the Navidad Formation (Tavera, 1979) should be regarded with caution. No other specimen has been collected by other investigators and it is also unknown from the geographically intermediate Ranquil Formation of Arauco. However, it would not be surprising if the occurrence of “Natica” striolata in the Navidad Formation could be confirmed.
