Species Kossmaticeras (Natalites) sp.

Alternative name:
Kossmaticeras sp.
Diagnosis / Definition:
Ward & Kennedy (1993):
Description. - Specimen is distorted whorl fragment 35 mm long. Coiling appears to have been very evolute, with slowly expanding whorls, umbilicus of moderate depth, with flattened wall and narrowly rounded umbilical shoulder. Flanks seem to have been somewhat flattened, and venter broadly rounded. Small bullae perched on umbilical shoulder, give rise to pairs of narrow, prorsiradiate ribs that weaken markedly on outer flank, and over venter. One strong, deep, prorsiradiate and feebly flexuous constriction present at larger end of fragment.
Discussion / Comments:
Ward & Kennedy (1993):
Discussion. - The distinctive rib pattern of this fragment suggests it to be a Kossmaticeras (Natalites), albeit specifically indeterminate. It shows close similarities to K. (N.) brunnschweileri Henderson and McNamara, 1985 (p. 63, Pl. 6, figs. 5, 6, Pl. 7, figs. 2, 3, 5) from upper Maastrichtian western Australia. Occurrence. - The single specimen is from Member IV, upper Maastrichtian, Bidart.
