Species Sphaeroidinellopsis kochi Caudri 1934

Diagnosis / Definition:
Kennett & Srinivasan (1983):
Test large, a compressed low trochospiral, equatorial periphery lobulate, axial periphery rounded; chambers subspherical to oval, four to five in the final whorl, sutures distinct, slightly depressed; surface smooth, very coarsely perforate, unthickened specimens distinctly cancellate, umbilicus deep, aperture large, irregular open- ing into the umbilicus with a thickened lip.
Discussion / Comments:
Kennett & Srinivasan (1983):
Ss. kochi is distinguished from Ss. seminulina seminulina by its somewhat compressed trochospiral test with more than three chambers in the final whorl.
Chaisson & Leckie (1993):
Remarks: This species is rare in Hole 806B. It always has more than three chambers in the final whorl. They are rounded and not completely covered with a cortex, giving the test a distinctly lobate outline. Where not covered with cortical overgrowth, the test is coarsely cancellate. Similar species: See Sphaeroidinellopsis seminulina.
