Species Trochus laevis Sowerby 1846

Discussion / Comments:
Griffin & Nielsen (2008):
TYPE MATERIAL. Holotype of Trochus laevis: NHM-G26393 (Navidad); two syntypes of Trochus fricki SGO.PI.810 (Lebu), SGO.PI.813 (Navidad). REMARKS. The name Trochus laevis is preoccupied several times and had been replaced by d’Orbigny (1852). That name, however, had been overlooked by all subsequent workers and was reintroduced by Nielsen et al. (2004). D’Orbigny also had one specimen in his collection, which is still present there under number 10292 and is labeled Trochus chilensis. Nielsen et al. (2004) discussed this species in detail and showed that it belongs in the Calliostomatidae.
