Diagnosis / Definition:
Kennett & Srinivasan (1983):
Test medium, low trochospiral, equatorial periphery subquadrate, lobulate, four rapidly increasing chambers in the final whorl; slightly flattened on spiral side, elon- gated toward umbilical side; sutures on both umbilical and spiral sides nearly radial, depressed; surface distinctly cancellate with circular pores set in polygonal pore pits; umbilicus wide, deep; aperture interiomarginal, umbilical, covered with a distinct, narrow, protruding umbilical tooth.
Discussion / Comments:
Srinivasan (1975):
Considerable confusion exists in the literature with regard to the identification of Globoquadrina baroemoenensis(LeRoy). This species is common in the Early and Middle Miocene of the Andaman and Nicobar islands. It is apparently closely related to Globoquadrina conglomerata (Schwager), and both of these may be conspecific. Globoquadrina langhiana Cita and Gelati is considered a synonym of G. baroemoenensis, as judged from illustrations published by Jenkins and Orr (1972, pl. 17, figs. 1 1-1 3).
Chaisson & Leckie (1993):
Remarks: This is a medium to large species. There are consistently four chambers in the final whorl. The umbilicus is open and the umbilical faces of the chambers may be somewhat flattened, particularly the final chamber, and perforate. All of the chambers in the final whorl tend to be subround and somewhat laterally compressed. A small umbilical tooth is usually present on the final chamber. Similar species: Kennett and Srinivasan (1983) considered Globoquadrina baroemoenensis to be synonymous with G. conglomerata. The former species, however, can be distinguished by the umbilical flattening of its chambers. G. conglomerata may have only three and a half chambers in the final whorl, whereas G. baroemoenensis always has four. Globoquadrina venezuelana has a more closed umbilicus and more embracing chambers. Globoquadrina dehiscens shows distinct flattening of the apertural face, which is imperforate, and the chambers are more embracing than in G. baroemoenensis.
Quilty (1976):
Remarks: The specimen figured shows well the degree of convergence of G. baroemoenensis and G. larmeui obesa which can occur at markedly different times.
