Microspecies Globoquadrina langhiana Cita & Gelati 1960

Discussion / Comments:
Iaccarino (1985):
G. langhiana, first described from the lower part of the Langhian in the Piedmont Basin, has been documented by many authors. The major features which distinguish it from other species of Globoquadrina are the globose and rapidly increasing chambers: the last one being much larger than the previous ones. The equatorial periphery is moderately lobate and the general shape is subquadrate; the aperture is narrow, elongated and bordered by a distinct lip. According to Cita & Gelati, G. langhiana shows close analogies with G. larmeui Akers in its globose shape and in the reduced number of chambers. G. larmeui is much higher and the last chamber is more globose on the umbilical side.
Quilty (1976):
Remarks: This species is the same as recorded by Jenkins and Orr (1972) as G. langhiana. It cannot be referred unequivocally to G. langhiana as the flattened apertural face is much more developed than seems to the case in G. langhiana.
