Diagnosis / Definition: |
Kennett & Srinivasan (1983):
Test small, low trochospiral, equatorial profile almost circular; chambers ovate, slightly elongated tangentially as viewed from the spiral side, six in the final whorl; last
chamber often smaller than the penultimate;
sutures on spiral side curved, slightly depressed, on umbilical side radial, depressed; surface finely and uniformly perforate. Umbilicus small, often completely closed, aperture interiomarginal, extraumbilical-umbilical,
slitlike with a prominent lip. |
Discussion / Comments: |
Kennett & Srinivasan (1983):
Gr. (F.) birnageae differs from Gr. (F.) kugleri in having sutures that are less depressed, about one or two fewer chambers in the final whorl, a closed umbilicus, and a
slitlike aperture with a distinct lip. This species differs from Gr. (F.) peripheroronda in having a more circular outline and a lower convex umbilical side.
Close morphological and surface ultrastructural relationships exist between Gr. (F.) peripheroronda and Gr. (F.) birnageae. Gr. (F.) birnageae has not been recorded
below Zone N7. Its ancestor seems to be Gr. (F.) peripheroronda. |
