Iaccarino (1985): This species is characterized by its small size, closed umbilicus, tight coiling and well developed apertural lip. The last chamber is often smaller than the previous one. It is very useful in the Mediterranean area for recognizing the Early to early Middle Miocene. Chaisson & Leckie (1993): Similar species: Globorotalia birnageae is distinguished from G. peripheroronda by its generally smaller size and nearly circular equatorial outline. |
