Discussion / Comments: |
Caron (1985):
The test is triserial, elongate and its surface decorated with
pore mounds. The species differs from G. cenomana in having
a higher apertural arch.
Van Eijden & Smit (1991):
Remarks. G. columbiana occurs in the <125-ìm fraction of several Eocene samples. Usually it is rare and extremely small. It is most common at Site 753, where it occurs throughout the middle Eocene. Usually, it is found in the mid-middle Eocene (Kroon and Nederbragt, in press). This species can be so extremely small that it will pass through the commonly used 63-ìm sieves.
Kroon & Nederbragt (1990):
The test is covered with pore mounds; the aperture
is a narrow, high and slightly asymmetrical arc, bordered
by a distinct lip and possessing a toothplate. G. irregularis
and G. danica have been described from the G.
eugubina Zone; both have the same shape as G. cretacea.
We assume that both forms posses pore-mounds and we
regard them as synonyms of G. cretacea.
Maastrichtian to Danian representatives of G. cretacea
have a world wide distribution. We found G. cretacea in the
Maastrichtian of DSDP Site 605 and in samples 75-12, 75-
13 and 75-14 from Grand Banks core hole 23. Older forms
were encountered in Coniacian to Campanian sediments
from a section near E1 Kef, Tunisia. |
