Diagnosis / Definition:
Kennett & Srinivasan (1983): Test low trochospiral, equatorial periphery lobulate; axial periphery rounded, chambers ovate, six to seven in the final whorl, final often irregular; sutures on both spiral and umbilical sides radial, depressed; surface distinctly cancellate; umbilicus wide, deep; aperture interiomarginal, umbilical-extraumbilical, a low to medium arch bordered by a distinct rim. |

Discussion / Comments:
Kennett & Srinivasan (1983): N. humerosa differs from its forerunner N. acostaensis in having more chambers in the final whorl (usually six or more), a wider umbilicus, and a reduced apertural lip. This species is distinguished from TV. dutertrei by having an interiomarginal, umbilical-extraumbilical aperture with a distinct rim, and an absence of umbilical plates. Chaisson & Leckie (1993): Remarks: Neogloboquadrina humerosa sensu stricto is very rare at this site. Specimens with only five chambers in the final whorl, but with "an interiomarginal, umbilical-extraumbilical aperture with a distinct rim" (Kennett and Srinivasan, 1983) and a flat dorsal side were assigned to this species concept. Specimens that resembled an intergrade between N. humerosa and N. dutertrei were found as low as the middle part of Zone N16 in Hole 806B. Similar species: Neogloboquadrina dutertrei tends to have slightly higher and more variable dorsal convexity than N. humerosa, as well as the tendency to develop umbilical plates. |
