Species Globorotalia conomiozea Kennett 1966

Alternative name:
Globorotalia (Globoconella) conomiozea Kennett 1966
Discussion / Comments:
Jenkins (1985):
G. conomiozea has an asymmetrical test with a flat spiral and a high umbilical side which gives it a conical shape. It is distinguished from G. sphericomiozea, which is smaller and has a thicker walled test and from G. conoidea, which also has a much thicker walled test (Jenkins, 1971). The evolutionary relationship of G. conomiozea to G. puncliculata at DSDP Leg 29 Site 284 was discussed by MaImgren & Kennett (1981). G. conomiozea has a short stratigraphic range in the Late Miocene in New Zealand but it appears to range into the Early Pliocene at DSDP Leg 29 Site 284, while at Leg 40 Sites 360 and 362 it is restricted to the Late Miocene (Jenkins, 1975, 1978c).
