|
Kennett & Srinivasan (1983): Test medium, low trochospiral, equatorial periphery quadrilobate; chambers spherical to subspherical, increasing uniformly in size as added, four in the final whorl; sutures radial and depressed on both umbilical and spiral sides. Surface coarsely pitted, with regular subhexagonal pits with sloping sides and pores at the centers. Umbilicus open, aperture interiomarginal, umbilical, high arched bordered by a thick rim. |

Kennett & Srinivasan (1983): Gg. (Zeaglobigerina) woodi is distinguished from Gg. (Zg.) connecta by having a high-arched aperture. It differs from Gg. (Zg.) brazieri in possessing a quadrilobate outline and a much more symmetrical and circular-shaped aperture. Gg. (Zg.) woodi appears to have evolved from "Globigerina" labiacrassata Jenkins during the Oligocene in the New Zealand region. It evolved into Gg. (Zg.) brazieri and Gg. (Zg.) connecta during the late Oligocene and earliest Miocene, which in turn gave rise to two separate Globigerinoides stocks (Globigerinoides subquadratus group and Globigerinoides triloba group, respectively). Also, the Zeaglobigerina lineage gave rise to the Sphaeroidinellopsis lineage in the early Miocene. |
