Spezzaferri & Silva (1990): In our material in addition to typical "G."woodi, which has four chambers in the last whorl and a wide-arched aperture occasionally with a thin lip, there are rare forms plotted as "Globigerina" sp. characterized by three to three and a half chambers in the last whorl, a subrectangular profile, and a mediumsized, low-arched aperture. They appear to be related to "G." woodi s. str. Chaisson & Leckie (1993): Remarks: This is typically a temperate-water species that ranges into the tropics, but it is persistently present at Site 806. Similar species: Globigerina woodi can be distinguished from G. apertura by its smaller aperture. Its chambers tend to be more embracing than those of G. apertura and that species tends to have a slightly higher trochospire. It is distiniguished from G. praebulloides and G. bulloides by its cancellate test wall and presence of a distinct apertural rim. Chaproniere (1988) describes great variation in G. woodi and illustrates specimens that are very similar to G. apertura (his plate 1, fig. 26), G. brazieri (his plate 1, figs. 11 and 17), and G. praebulloides (his plate 2, figs. 23 and 26). We also observed considerable variation in the overall size and shape of the aperture in specimens of G. woodi from Site 806. Quilty (1976): Remarks: The specimens identified here are very similar to G. W. Woodi, but the aperture is a lower arch without any trace of lip or rim. It occurs here almost at the youngest end of the world range recorded by Jenkins (1971). |
