Species Globigerina (Zeaglobigerina) connecta Jenkins 1964

Alternative name:
Globigerina connecta Kennett 1964
Diagnosis / Definition:
Kennett & Srinivasan (1983):
Test medium, compact, low trochospiral, equatorial periphery trilobate, initial whorls indistinct, chambers subovate; the three chambers of the final whorl increase rapidly in size, with the final chamber tending to overlap upon the earlier chambers; surface coarsely pitted, sutures radial, gently depressed; aperture a low arch with a faint rim.
Discussion / Comments:
Kennett & Srinivasan (1983):
Gg. (Zg.) connecta differs from Gg. (Zg.) woodi in having a compact test and a more highly arched aperture. Morphologically transitional forms connecting these two species occur within the range of Gg. (Zg.) connecta. Gg. (Zg.) connecta evolved from Gg. (Zg.) woodi in the Gg. dehiscens Zone (Early Miocene) and is the immediate ancestor of Globigerinoides triloba.
