Species Globigerinoides bulloideus Crescenti 1966


Diagnosis / Definition:
Kennett & Srinivasan (1983):
Test low to medium-high,trochospiral, wider than high; chambers spherical to subspherical, the four chambers of the last whorl increasing rapidly in size; sutures on spiral and umbilical side gently curved and depressed; surface hispid with spine bases and slightly pitted on earlier chambers; umbilicus wide, deep; primary aperture interiomarginal, umbilical, large, semicircular arch bordered by a distinct rim. Last few chambers show a single supplementary aperture opposite the primary one.
Discussion / Comments:
Kennett & Srinivasan (1983):
In gross morphology, this species closely resembles Globigerina (Gg.) bulloides, from which it evolved by developing supplementary apertures on spiral side.
Bolli & Saunders (1985):
The species is characterized by a wide primary aperture and only one small supplementary aperture. In its shape, arrangement of chambers and in size it is very close to Globigerina bulloides. It differs from G. bollii in possessing a wider primary aperture, a more lobate equatorial profile and less embracing chambers G. altiaperturus differs from G. bulloideus in the higher and distinctly larger supplementary aperture. Compared with G. primordius, G. bulloideus possesses a larger primary aperture and a less lobate outline.

Remarks: This taxon is very rare and occurs only sporadically in Hole 806B.
