Species Globorotalia conoidea Walters 1965

Alternative name:
Globorotalia (Globoconella) conoidea Walters 1965
Discussion / Comments:
Jenkins (1985):
G. conoidea is distinguished from G. miozea in having a more conical shaped test with a sharper keel developed in the later chambers of the test G. conoidea is thick walled like its ancestor G. miozea and ranges in New Zealand from Middle Miocene to Early Pliocene (Jenkins, 1971). It is present at DSDP Leg 29 Sites 279, 281 and 284 where it is restricted to the Middle Late Miocene (Jenkins, 1960, 1975). At DS13P Leg 40 Site 360 it ranges into the Early Pliocene but is restricted to the Miocene at the more northern Site 362 (Jenkins, 1978c). G. conoidea is a thick walled form of Globorotalia miotumida Jenkins (see Kennett and Srinivason, 1983).
